What is Parallel Parking?
Parallel parking means parking your car in a straight line between two vehicles — usually along the side of the road.
It’s commonly used in areas with limited parking.
Why Parallel Parking Matters?
Parallel parking is one of the most important — and often the most confusing — driving skills for beginners. If you live in a busy city in India, you know how hard it can be to find a wide parking space.
That’s why mastering parallel parking can save time, effort, and avoid unnecessary damage to your car.
At DriveClap – Your Driving Training Partner, we help new learners gain full confidence in parking — even in tight spaces.
Why Is It Challenging for Beginners?
- It requires good judgment of space and angles.
- You need to check mirrors and blind spots.
- Fear of hitting another vehicle can cause stress.
- Not enough practice or guidance.
But with the right steps, anyone can learn it.
Step-by-Step Guide to Parallel Parking
Step 1: Find a Suitable Spot
Look for a space that’s at least 1.5 times the length of your car. Turn on your indicator and slowly stop next to the car in front of the space.
Step 2: Line Up Your Car
Keep about 2 feet of distance between your car and the parked one. Your rear bumper should line up with the other car’s rear bumper
Step 3: Begin Reversing
Put your car in reverse. As soon as you start moving back, turn your steering wheel fully towards the curb (left for India). Keep checking mirrors.
Step 4: Straighten the Wheel
When the front of your car clears the back of the car in front, start straightening the wheel. Continue reversing.
Step 5: Final Adjustment
As your car starts to fit in the space, turn the wheel in the opposite direction (right). Adjust until you’re neatly in the space.
